Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards will step down from his role at the end of the season and he’s determined to leave on a high. It was revealed that the Reds have big plans for the upcoming January transfer window. The sporting director is expected to spearhead the addition of new players when the transfer window reopens in the next few weeks in what could be one of his last major actbefore he steps down.
The Daily Star says that Liverpool are set to lose the services of Naby Keita, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane to the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament next year and the Merseyside giants are prepared to cover for the three player by making some signings. Keita has had his injury problems at Liverpool this season, but he’s expected to leave the club to link up with the Guinean national team in the coming weeks ahead of the AFCON tournament as long as he’s fit. At the moment, Keita has a hamstring injury which ruled him out of the last two Liverpool games.
Salah and Mane are not prone to injuries like what’s obtainable with Guinean midfielder Keita. Salah is the talisman for the Egyptian national team, while Mane has the same role for the Senegalese national team.
Two Italian Serie A players in Gleison Bremer and Marcelo Brozovic have emerged as Liverpool targets on Edwards’ list ahead of the winter transfer window. Inter Milan are keen to sign Croatian international Brozovic to a new deal at the club with his current deal set to expire next summer. Torino defender Bremer is another player on Edwards’ radar.
Respected Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Villarreal attacker Arnaut Danjuma is also a Liverpool target. Another reported Livepool target is young Fulham attacker Fabio Carvalho as revealed by the Daily Mail.
